Things You Never Thought You’d…

Last night was a blast! We started off the night with a new game called “Catch the Dragon’s Tail”. The first person in the line has to catch pull the bandana out the the pocket of the last person in the line. Make sure to check out the video and pictures below of the game.

We followed up the game with a powerful worship time, and then went in to part three of our “My Life Is a Roller Coaster” Series. This week’s youth sermon was “Things You Never Thought You’d…”

We looked at the story of David and Bathsheba. Weeks 1 and 2 showed David as a mighty warrior and man of God. This week showed David falling into sin by committing adultery with Bathsheba (the wife of Uriah, one of David’s mighty men), and then having Uriah killed to keep him from finding out about Bathsheba’s pregnancy.

How could David, the King of God’s chosen people, do such a thing, and how could he still be referred to as “a man after God’s own heart”??? We will look at the full answer next week, but the short version is: David repented with all his heart. Throughout David’s life, you never see David make the same mistake twice. This is true repentance—turning and running from your sin, not just asking for forgiveness.

At the end of the lesson, the youth took time to write down things in their life that they were struggling with, embarrassed to be struggling with, or situations that they felt there was no hope for victory in.

1 Corinthians 10:13 says,  “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

This passage shows us that (1) God is faithful (2) He will never allow us to be tempted with more than we can handle, and (3) God will always provide a way out.

It is important to remember that it is not a sin to be tempted, but it is a sin when we give in to temptation. God is not calling us to be famous and perfect. He is simply calling us to be faithful.

We hope you will join us next week for the final part of our “My Life Is a Roller Coaster” Series titled, “One True Friend”.

Be Blessed!                                                                                                                                                                                 Pastor Dustin
