March Madness— Week 2— A Knight’s Night— 3/12/17

Hello #teamawakening family!

This past Sunday was week two of our March Madness Event! The theme this week was “A Knight’s Night”, and our main activity was a jousting contest between the different Tribes. Tribe Vanguard came out on top in this week’s competition. We are still working on retrieving videos from the event. Until we post the videos, try to imagine this: Students being pushed towards their opponent in an office chair, holding a pull noodle as their weapon, and trying to knock a ball of tape off of their opponent’s shoulder! Yes, it was wild, fun, and slightly dangerous, but no students were harmed during the competition!

The message this week was, “LIGHT VS. DARKNESS”, and we looked at the Kingdom of Light vs. the Kingdom of Darkness.  Way back, thousands of years ago, the Kingdom of Heaven was divided. An angel named Lucifer, who we now know as Satan, decided to rebel against God. Along with Lucifer, a third of all the angels in heaven decided to rebel as well. Ever since that time, there have been two kingdoms— the Kingdom of Light VS. the Kingdom of Darkness.

Many people are afraid of the dark. It’s what often happens in the dark that people are afraid of and not the dark itself: robberies, crimes, etc. The dark can leave us feeling vulnerable and unprotected. The same way that many are afraid of the dark in life, many are also afraid of the Kingdom of Darkness because of what it represents and stands for.

1.   Satan’s Plan

John 10:9 and 1 Peter 5:8 says,
10:9 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; 5:8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

Satan and his Kingdom of Darkness has one agenda— to steal and rob you of the truth, kill your joy, and destroy your relationships and dreams. We are told to stay alert because Satan is looking for someone to attack. The “roaring lion” is actually referring to an old, toothless lion than roars to make others think he is strong and dangerous. It’s the same as a
really small dog that constantly barks— the small ones make the most noise! The truth is that the only power that Satan has over us is the power that we give him. When we sin and choose a way other than God’s way, we are allowing Satan
to have power over us. He knows his only hope to defeat us is to get us to give him power and control over our lives. Satan is a master at mind games.

2.  God’s Solution

John 12:46 says,
46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

Believing in Christ and having a relationship with him means that we do not have to remain in the darkness in ANY part of our lives (Thoughts, actions, etc.). While Satan may intend to destroy us, Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead for our sins so that we would not have to be controlled by the Kingdom of Darkness! We share in Christ’s victory over the Kingdom of Darkness!

3.   Our Choice

John 8:12 says,
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Two kingdoms— light and darkness. People choice both every day. It’s easy to ask ourselves, “Why would anyone choose the kingdom of darkness?” The answer is things like comfort, fear, peer-pressure, etc. Following Jesus and  surrendering to him means that we never have to walk in darkness. The darkness will come at us, but the power to overcome the darkness
lives within us! CHOOSE LIGHT!

Next week is week three of March Madness and that means that it is SMASH NIGHT!!! Don’t miss it!

Be Blessed!
