We are currently on a 5-Week teaching on IDENTITY.
Week 1 (October 16th)— Intro Message
OBJECTIVE: If you want to be a disciple of Jesus you must understand the new identity he gives you and the calling that comes with that identity.
1. Embrace your true identity by knowing who you are and whose you are.
2. Live out your true identity by following God’s mission.
Week 2 (October 23rd)— IMAGE OF GOD
This lesson covers the foundational concept of humans being made in the image of God (Gen. 1:27). This image gives every single person value and dignity. We were created to represent God to the world. Because of our sin, we’re poor representatives, but Jesus renews the image in us and serves as an example of how to reflect God well.
Week 3 (October 30th)— Spiritual Gifts: What are they and how should we use them?
Think about all the times you’ve passed a broken-down car on the side of the road. Sometimes the problem is obvious: a smashed front end with glass shattered everywhere. But often the problem is obscured. A car will only run when all the parts are working, no matter how flashy or hidden. A functioning battery is just as important as nice tires, even if you can’t see it from the outside. It’s the same with spiritual gifts in the church. Each person has been given a gift to use in our God-given mission to share Christ’s love with the rest of the world. Every spiritual gift, whether it’s clear or concealed, can contribute to God’s mission. It’s part of your identity as a disciple of Christ.
Week 4 (November 6th)— A Disciple’s Mission: How do you know God’s mission for your life?
Robert P. George says, “A true Christian is never a tame Christian.” In other words, you can’t be sedentary or lazy if you want to take up Jesus’ calling. It’s not for the faint of heart. This lesson will explore the impact a disciple can make and the mission that Christ has called us to. We will reflect on the following formula: Burden + Passion + Vision = Mission. Followers of Jesus shouldn’t be feeble or tame. Jesus’ calling channels your life toward a specific purpose with focus and power.
Week 5 (November 23rd)— Temptation: What to do when I’m Tempted.
Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we do things we know won’t end well for us. Temptation lures us into situations we’d be better off avoiding. This lesson focuses on how Jesus encountered temptation just like we do. Because he was tempted, he knows what it’s like for us to face temptation. He can help us reject it, too.
