“If My People…” Week 2— Becoming a 122Generation (9/25/16)

Happy Monday #teamawakening family!

This is the last update for the month of September! CRAZY!

Last night was the 2nd and final part of our “if my people…” series. The message was “Becoming a 122Generation. The title came from the name for the youth band that the band members recently picked: Gen122.

What is a 122 Generation?
Romans 12:2NIV— Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.                Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

A 122 Generation is a generation that does not seek to find their worth in everyone else’s opinion of them, does not compromise themselves to fit in, that does not compromise their beliefs to please people, and that puts God’s will above their own.

Psalm 24:3-6NIV says,
3 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.
5 They will receive blessing from the Lord
and vindication from God their Savior.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, God of Jacob.

We talked about the three characteristic s of a 122Generation and what they each mean:

  1. Clean Hands- Refers to our actions, especially what we do in public; someone who has not been overcome and influenced by the world; not living like the world.
  2. Pure Hearts- This is referring to your motives. Having clean hands is referring to WHAT we
do. Pure Hearts is referring not just to WHAT we do, but also WHY we do what we do. This also refers to what we do behind closed doors when no one is watching.
  3. A Committed Walk- Not to “trust in idols”… We do not pursue the blessings and things of the world over
God because we know that they are temporary; Seek God’s face above all not just in word, but in action as well.

We also looked at the song, “Give Us Clean Hands” performed by Kutless. You can check out the video below.

This song is our prayer… A generation of young people that seeks God’s face above all. A generation that does not conform to the world for acceptance or approval, but stays committed to Christ to see him glorified in their lives and the lives of others. We reminded the youth that this is a team effort and encouraged them to encourage one another in helping create a 122 Generation.

At the end of the message, the students were given some time to complete this challenge: “Take some time with your pen and paper to pray and ask God what is on his heart for you, this youth ministry, and this generation. Then right a prayer to God based on what you feel he tells you. We’ll use these prayers to formulate a general prayer for our group.” Lydia and I just finished reading the prayers, and we were truly blown away by the prayers that the youth wrote down. It was obvious that they truly heard from God during the quiet time we gave them!

Don’t miss next week as Macey and Noah, our student leaders, will be helping lead the group in developing our game plan for reaching our friends and schools for the 2016-2017 school year!

Be Blessed!
