GO FOR IT!— 9/24/17

Happy Last Monday in September!

Last night was the first time that worship was completely led by the youth! You can check out a short clip below. We hope to have the full band leading together by the end of the year!

The name of last night’s message was, “GO FOR IT!”. We looked at Hebrews 12:1-3NIV.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

THEREFORE is referring to Hebrews 11 and the “Hall of Faith”— people like Abraham, Noah, Moses, David, Samuel and the prophets. The Greek word for CLOUDS— nephos— is actually referring to the highest seats available of a stadium. SURROUNDED is actually referring to being completely encircled by something; piled high and lying around you on every side.

We are surrounded by MANY who have gone before us in the faith, fought the same fight that we are fighting, and succeeded. Be encouraged and conquer the challenge that lies before!!!

THROW OFF that which HINDERS means to let go of whatever holds us back in life and our walk with God (doubt, fear, addiction, etc.). We are told to throw off that which ENTANGLES us. The word entangles means “surrounds” in the Greek. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses  who have overcome the same things that we face in life, but we can also be surrounded by things that hold us back.

That is why it is important for us to fix our eyes and focus on Jesus. We ARE surrounded by some incredible believers who have gone before us in the faith, and cheering us on. We can also, if we choose to allow it, be surrounded by negativity and things that hold us back in our walk with God.

Jesus was the PIONEER AND PERFECTER of our faith. This means he was the ultimate example of our faith. He demonstrated how to live, how to overcome temptation, and how to love others. He went as far as giving his life on the Cross so that we could have a personal, eternal relationship with him!

See You at the Pole is this Wednesday. We talked about how taking a stand for our faith can sometimes be intimidating. Anytime we face fear and doubt, we can remember the great cloud of witnesses we are surrounded by. Students were encouraged to GO FOR IT! when it comes to sharing their faith and letting their light shine on their school campuses. When we expect God to change us, our schools, families and communities, he won’t disappoint!

Be Blessed!
