32! That is how many people we had Sunday night! 2017 is off to a GREAT start! Since the youth met the 30 person challenge— “Get 30 people here on one night, and you get ice cream sundaes as well as turn Pastor Dustin into a human ice cream sundae”— we will be rewarding the students on January 29th!
Here’s a video clip from the beginning of youth:
This was the second week of our electives. This week was our Human Video and Tech/Arts Electives. You can check out some of the pictures below.
We started off the night in our Tribe Huddles praying for friends, go over the upcoming events, and getting the directions for our games. You can check out some pictures from our Tribe Huddles below:
We had another great time of worship that was led by the youth band, GEN122.
The first week of our X-RAY VISION Series focused on the first part of our X-RAY VISION— connecting all students to the family of Christ, and we looked at three steps to accomplish this.
The Scripture for the night was Matthew 22:36-40NIV
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
1. Connect with God
We cannot help connect someone to God if we are not connected with him ourselves. We can go through times in life when our connection seems weak. It’s in these times that it is important to continue to seek God with all our heart and spend time with him to allow us to work through the times when our connection with him seems weak and damaged.
2. Connect with Others
One of the things that Matthew 22:36-40 tells us is to love our neighbor. Our neighbor is whoever we come in contact with. We talked about whether or not we are also called to love “bad people”— the people at our schools that are known as the bullies, druggies, etc. We challenged the students with this statement— These are not bad people. They are people who are broken, hurting, and lacking a connection to their Creator and a group with a positive influence on their lives.
3. Connect the Two to Each Other
This is the end goal. This is how we connect ALL students to the family of God. It’s easy to have a connection with God that we don’t allow others to see. Our goal is for others to be drawn into their own connection with God through their connection/relationship with us.
We closed out the night by splitting moving back into our Tribe Huddles to talk more about the message.
Don’t miss Part 2 next week!
