X-RAY VISION— 1/29/17

Happy Monday!

Last night was a blast! We set another record in attendance with 37 students! We kicked off the night with the alphabet game. Teams had to spell out five-six letter words with their bodies. The team that correctly spelled the word the fastest won the point for that round. Tribe Vanguard, one of our middle school tribes, won the overall competition.

The message tonight was the third and final part to our X-RAY VISION Series— Discovering God’s Purpose for Your Life.

Job 42:2NIV says, Then Job replied to the Lord: 2 “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

God created each and everyone of us with a unique purpose and plan for our life. We see in Job that NOTHING can stop us from accomplishing that purpose!

Jeremiah 1:5 and Psalm 139:13-14 says,
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…”
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

God formed us and crafted together each and every detail of our lives. Being “fearfully made” means that God looked at us in awe when he created us. Think about that for a minute— God, the creator of the universe, is crazy about each and every one of us. He believes in us and wants each and every one of us to live up to our full potential in him!

Jeremiah 29:11-14 says,
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord…

This Scriptures passage tells us that God has plans for us! They also tell us that we will discover those plans when we become serious about God and seek him with all of our heart. The beginning of verse 14 is an INCREDIBLE promise. God tells us— “I WILL BE FOUND BY YOU”!!!!! That is the incredible God that we encourage all of our students to seek. Our God is not a God that is distant from us. He tells us that we will find him when we truly seek him!

We closed out the message by having the students take a few minutes of quiet time to ask God what his purpose was for their lives before splitting back into our Tribe Huddles.

Regardless of what mistakes you’ve made, how many times you’ve been called a failure, or what you think about yourself, God has an incredible purpose for your life that he longs to see you fulfill!

We closed out the night by rewarding the students for meeting the “30 Person Challenge”. We told the students that they could have ice cream sundaes and turn me into a human ice cream sundae if we got 30 students at youth on one night. We had 32 two weeks ago, and tonight was the night for the ice cream! You can check out the picture below:

X-RAY VISION— 1/22/15

Hello #teamawakening family!

We kicked off the night with a fun group game before heading into our worship time. Once the GEN122 Youth Band was finished leading us in worship, we headed into the message.

This week was week two of our X-RAY VISION Series. The message topic was “Develop a Deeper Walk of Faith”.

We started the message by showing some pictures that were about two years old of some of the youth to demonstrate how we develop and grow physically. God desires for us to grow and develop in our spiritual walks with him as well.

1.  Developing a Deeper Walk of Faith

Hebrews 5:12NIV says,

12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!

1 Corinthians 3:2 says,

12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!

What’s the bottom line? God wants us to go deeper with him, to learn more about him, and experience his love to the fullest.

Romans 12:2 says,

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Transformation means to change. When we allow God to transform us, we are able to begin to discover his plan for our lives. The problem? We too often believe the lie that says, “Admitting that there is something about us that needs to be changed or transformed means that we are weak, insignificant, and failures”. The truth? Admitting that we need to be transformed simply means that God isn’t finished with us yet! God desires us to develop a deeper walk of faith until the day we die. He has so much he wants to show us and do in our lives that it is a lifelong process!

2.  Helping Others Develop a Deeper Walk of Faith

Hebrews 10:24-25 says,

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Developing a deeper walk of faith isn’t an individual effort. Developing a deeper walk of faith has to be a team effort. It doesn’t matter if we’re all alike, like each other, or have a lot in common. We are all part of the same team and are called to help each other develop a
deeper walk of faith.

We finished out the night by splitting back into our Tribe Huddles to talk about the message in more detail.

Next week will be the final week of our X-RAY VISION Series. We will be talking about discovering God’s purpose for our lives, and will close out the night with ice cream sundaes!

See you next week!

X-RAY VISION— 1/15/17

32! That is how many people we had Sunday night! 2017 is off to a GREAT start! Since the youth met the 30 person challenge— “Get 30 people here on one night, and you get ice cream sundaes as well as turn Pastor Dustin into a human ice cream sundae”— we will be rewarding the students on January 29th!

Here’s a video clip from the beginning of youth:

This was the second week of our electives. This week was our Human Video and Tech/Arts Electives. You can check out some of the pictures below.

We started off the night in our Tribe Huddles praying for friends, go over the upcoming events, and getting the directions for our games. You can check out some pictures from our Tribe Huddles below:

We had another great time of worship that was led by the youth band, GEN122.

The first week of our X-RAY VISION Series focused on the first part of our X-RAY VISION— connecting all students to the family of Christ, and we looked at three steps to accomplish this.

The Scripture for the night was Matthew 22:36-40NIV

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

1.  Connect with God

We cannot help connect someone to God if we are not connected with him ourselves. We can go through times in life when our connection seems weak. It’s in these times that it is important to continue to seek God with all our heart and spend time with him to allow us to work through the times when our connection with him seems weak and damaged.

2.  Connect with Others

One of the things that Matthew 22:36-40 tells us is to love our neighbor. Our neighbor is whoever we come in contact with. We talked about whether or not we are also called to love “bad people”— the people at our schools that are known as the bullies, druggies, etc. We challenged the students with this statement— These are not bad people. They are people who are broken, hurting, and lacking a connection to their Creator and a group with a positive influence on their lives.

3.  Connect the Two to Each Other

This is the end goal. This is how we connect ALL students to the family of God. It’s easy to have a connection with God that we don’t allow others to see. Our goal is for others to be drawn into their own connection with God through their connection/relationship with us.

We closed out the night by splitting moving back into our Tribe Huddles to talk more about the message.

Don’t miss Part 2 next week!

2017 State of the Awakening Address— 1/8/17

Happy January 9th!

This past Sunday was the launch of our new set up as well as our 2017 State of the Awakening Address! Our new meeting time is Sunday Night from 6-8 with different electives meeting before youth from 5-6. The electives this week were karate, cafe, and study (homework). We also set a new record for attendance with 25 middle and high schoolers!!!

Our game was “Minty Chinny”. The students had to balance a mint on their chin and try to knock everyone else’s off without losing their own.  It was pretty comical to watch, but we did not get any pictures of that:/

The youth band, GEN122, led us in a great time of worship before we moved into the message for the night titled, “2017 State of the Awakening Address.” We looked at what we had seen God do over the past year as well as in 2014 and 2015.  As we started the message, Derik and Logan (The secret service agents for the night), got the rest of the group AMPED UP as “Hail to the Chief” and “Awake and Alive by Skillet” cranked through the sound system while the “president” walked in.

We looked at three main things during the message:

1.     The Past

1. Numbers
    A. 2014— 10.77
B. 2015— 13.
C. 2016— 17
***That’s a 60% increase in three years!***
2. First ever mission trips to Staten Island, NY and Lancaster, PA.
A. We are hosting a mission trip in Sandusky, OH in 2017!
3. New logo, shirts, and painted the youth room.
4. Increased community involvement.
A. Salvation Army, Homeless Shelter, Cookies and cards to 1st Responders.
B. Schools (Lunch, Garbonics, and Action Steps)
5. Dare2Share
6. Pool Table and Ping Pong Table
7. The band, GEN122, has continued to grow, improve, and add new people.
8. The best? Spiritual growth.
A. People lifting hands, praying, witnessing, etc.

After we looked at the past, we took time to look at what we are believing God for as we move into 2017!

2.     The Present and Beyond

1. 2017 Theme— #NewBeginningsNewHeights
A. 2 Corinthians 5:17ESV— Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the has                    come.
B. Isaiah 43:19ESV— Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
2. Updated Vision— X-RAY VISION (More on this over the next three weeks)
3. New, 6-step discipleship process that every student will be encouraged to go through before graduating.

3. The Future

1. We are praying and believing that God radically transforms each and every person that walks through these doors to the point that others can’t help but notice.

2.  We encouraged the students to not let their main priority to be to change their friends this year. We challenged the students to allow God to take them to new heights in their own relationships with him and their friends will follow. Part of God taking us to new heights in our lives includes reaching those around us. As God changes us, he changes others through us!

As we closed out the message portion of the service, we asked the students: “Who’s In?” Who’s ready for God to take them, and this youth ministry, to new beginnings and new heights in 2017? The outcome was all 25 students stood to close out the message as we prayed over the group!

We closed out the night by splitting back into our tribe huddles to talk about the new beginnings and new heights that we wanted to see God take the group to in 2017. Some of these included: averaging 25-30 by the end of 2017, 10-12 salvations in 2017, growing stronger in our faith as a group, more community outreaches, etc. The individual goals that students set were also pretty exciting to hear!

We are PUMPED about 2017, and we hope that you are too! #NewBeginningNewHeights
