Overcomer (10/4/15)

Overcomer (10/4/15)

Lastnight was a blast! We kicked off the night with a game called “Amoeba Tag”. You can see the video below by clicking on “Amoeba Tag”:)

We then moved in to our time of worship with the youth band. It never gets old seeing middle school and high school students lifting their hands in worship to God WITHOUT being asked to!

After worship, we moved on to the message titled “Overcomer”. We looked at three keys to living as an overcomer in our walk with God from Revelation 12:11NIV:

They triumphed over him
    by the blood of the Lamb
    and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
    as to shrink from death.

The first thing we looked at was “The Work of Jesus for You.” The “blood of the Lamb” refers to the work that Christ did on the cross for each and every one of us. He died and shed his blood for our sins so that we could have a relationship and eternal life with him!

The second thing we looked at was “The Work of Jesus in You.” The fact that Jesus died for each and everyone of us in INCREDIBLE news. However, if people don’t see the love of God in our lives as we live out our everyday life we cannot expect those around us to commit to following him. This is why our testimony is so important. Our testimony shows others what the work of Jesus on the cross has done for us personally. As we share our testimony, it also helps us overcome life’s obstacles as we confess the victory and life we have in Christ.

The third and final thing we looked at was “The Work of Jesus through You.” This verse says, “they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” While we obviously did not teach that everyone should expect to die for their faith, we did remind everyone that we should die to our sinful/fleshly desires. We asked the question, “Are you willing to die/lose your popularity, social standing, friends, etc. because of the Gospel?” as well as “Is the eternal destiny of your friends more important that their acceptance of you?”

When the work that Jesus did for you and in you becomes real, you can’t help but to allow him to work through you to give others the same life-changing opportunity that you have experienced.  We can each be an “Overcomer” when we live out the principles in this verse in our everyday lives!

After the lesson, we split in to groups of two to share what God had done in our lives as well as praying for each others friends who do not have a relationship with Christ. You can check out some of those pictures below.
