We started a new series this Sunday (June 7, 2015) titled, “My Life Is a Roller Coaster”. We kicked the night off with Goliath Dodgeball (Pastor Dustin had to swallow his competitive pride in defeat this time), and then the youth band introduced a new song.
Part 1 of the series was, “Overcoming Our Giants”. Unfortunately, we all have giants that we face in life. Some may be things like doubt and fear while others may be things like addictions, drugs, pornography, etc. We looked at the story of David and Goliath. The story tells us that David RAN to the battle line to face Goliath because he knew that God had already given him the victory. The same is true in our personal lives. We challenged the youth to run to the battle line to face their “giants” knowing that God has already provided the victory.
Pastor Dustin shared this illustration with the youth: “I get a huge adrenaline rush riding roller coasters, and I especially enjoy the initial drop (the bigger the better). What I don’t like is the slow journey up the hill (I may slightly freak out if it stopped half way up the hill). However, I can’t get to the part of the ride that I like without conquering the part of the ride that may be a little uncomfortable for me. The same is true in life: If we want to grow stronger and closer to God while experiencing his blessings, we have to be willing to trust him through the hard times of life when our giants threaten to destroy us.”
Don’t be afraid to face your giants! Romans 8:37 tells us that we are more than conquerers through Him who loved us!
