Falling Down

Hey everybody! We hope that this update from Awakening Youth Ministries finds you doing well and enjoying life! This past Sunday, April 26th, we talked about “Falling Down”.

Before we got into the music and lesson, we played a new game to the group called “Chair Basketball”. This game is just like basketball except that you have to stay seated in your chair. So where in the room you position yourself is the key to winning and losing.

We had a great time of music/worship where we were encouraged to allow the presence of God to fill every part of their life including as well as heal the wounds that we were struggling with.

The name of the lesson was, “Falling Down”. We all know that it’s easy following God when things are going well, but things change when life gets a little tougher and we fall. We are defined not by the mistakes we make but what we do in response to those mistakes.

We looked at Peter, a disciple of Christ, as an example. Peter claimed he would NEVER betray or abandon Christ, but unfortunately, Peter did exactly what he said he would never do: deny Christ THREE times. The incredible thing is, as we see in John 21:15-17, Peter returned to Christ, was reinstated, and saw 3,000 people saved after his first message! People was originally called to reach the lost, and even after his HUGE fall, his calling never changed! He simply had to repent and return to Christ.

Your Spiritual GPS/Skating Trip

This weekend was a blast! We went skating on Saturday, and then we talked about “Your Spiritual GPS” on Sunday night. Our spiritual GPS is the Bible.

The Bible isn’t like any other book because it is still alive and active in our lives today. The Bible isn’t just the “word” of God; it is the voice of God. The more time we spend getting to know the word, or written voice of God, the more we will come to know God’s spoken voice in our lives.

Life also has a way of throwing detours at us. It’s really not a matter of “if”, but when we’ll be faced with unexpected situations in our lives. The Bible serves as our guide and entry point to knowing and discerning the voice of God to guide us through the “detours” of life.

We hope to see you next week and be blessed!

A Limitless Cell Phone Plan

A Limitless Cell Phone Plan

Tonight was Part- 4 of our “Ignition 7” Series, and the topic was “A Limitless Cell Phone Plan”. We talked about how prayer is our limitless, or unlimited, way of communicating with God.

The night kicked off with an icebreaker called “telephone”. This is a game where the first person says something to the person beside of them, and the message then gets passed throughout the group until it gets back to the person who gave the original message. The majority of the time, the message gets completely distorted by the time it gets through the group. Fortunately, we don’t have to worry about God giving us tricky messages that are difficult to hear and virtually impossible to carry out.

The “secret” we gave the youth about prayer was to forget about it. Yes, you read correctly. The reason we encouraged the youth to forget about it is because prayer itself is not the purpose of what we are trying to accomplish. The purpose is simply talking and communicating with God,  the creator of the universe. We need to quit worrying about impressing God with our prayers and just be ourselves (that’s who God created us to be).

We closed out the night by having the youth write a prayer to God on the student handouts that they could later read to God. The purpose was to allow them to get their feelings off their chest before they actually tried to verbalize them to anyone.

See you next week!
